About this project
This intervention translates the values of the Coletivo VIVO into a collective and participatory action, created with the collaboration of Inês Almeida, Clara Morais and Milena Lima.
Participants were invited to build a shared visual composition by placing modular elements onto a transparent surface. Each module, derived from the collective’s visual identity, represents a fragment of a living system and must connect to others, reinforcing the idea of coexistence. The experience was enhanced through the accumulation of sound: recordings of endangered species were activated as new modules were added, gradually filling the space with overlapping layers of disappearing natural soundscapes. After the collective construction, participants were guided to the opposite side of the glass, where the final composition was revealed: an unexpected interspecies figure, formed through the accumulation and overlap of all modules. This outcome evokes ideas similar to exquisite corpses, generating a hybrid, mutated body that symbolically merges multiple endangered species into a single living entity.
Additional elements, such as manually produced fabric bags and hand-painted t-shirts, extended the project’s values into physical artifacts, emphasizing sustainability, imperfection, and process as central aspects of a living design practice.

Problem
The main challenge was to translate abstract values, such as care, coexistence, and interdependence, into a tangible and engaging public action. It required creating an open system that could be activated by participants without imposing rigid rules, while still maintaining a clear conceptual direction.
Another difficulty was fostering genuine participation, encouraging people to engage intuitively and collaboratively rather than passively observing the intervention. Additionally, the project needed to balance structure and freedom, allowing for unpredictable outcomes while ensuring that the collective message remained coherent. Another difficulty was creating an experience that would not end in the act of participation itself, but would reveal a deeper conceptual layer through its final result.

Solution
The project was developed as an open system based on modular interaction. Participants were invited to place printed modules onto a glass surface, following a single principle: each element must connect to another, ensuring that no unit exists in isolation. This process generated an organic and unpredictable composition, built through collective action. Simultaneously, a dynamic soundscape of endangered species was activated and layered in real time, intensifying as more modules were added.
The intervention culminated in a shift of perspective: by moving to the opposite side of the glass, participants encountered the hidden result of their actions. The reverse side revealed a dense, hybrid composition formed by overlapping textures and fragments of animal bodies. This unexpected outcome created an interspecies figure — a visual mutation that merges multiple endangered species — reinforcing the idea of coexistence and shared existence. The result transforms individual gestures into a collective body, embodying the values of the Coletivo VIVO through both process and form.
